Restorative care is an organized program provided to each resident at Share Convalescent Home. Services focus on helping each resident obtain and maintain the highest level of function possible. Restorative supports residents to do for themselves rather than “doing for” the resident. This is addressed with short-term goals such as: increasing muscle strength, mobility, and independence in ADLs (activities of daily living). Restorative also helps residents maintain the highest level of physical, mental and psychosocial well-being. Restorative care requires a transdisciplinary approach with teamwork between therapy and nursing services throughout the array of care.
Additionally, we offer one on one care with residents, which includes: nail care, foot soaks, hot pack treatments, and massages. We have also recently purchased a Wii gaming system for the resident to enjoy. The benefits of all these activities are improved circulation, joint and muscle pain relief, improved hand-eye coordination, improved cognitive function, improved ambulation, skin integrity, and improved function in a variety of other routine daily activities.
Restorative nursing programs ultimately promote the residents’ ability to adapt and adjust to living as independently and safely as possible. Our residents enjoy the time we spend with them and look forward to the next visit.
